“I want to bring my years of experience working with and representing children and families in a variety of settings to ensure that South Pasadena Unified continues to offer a quality and equitable public education to all children and provide them with the best possible foundation for life.” Along with ensuring the excellent delivery of educational basics – literacy, math, science and art – Tamis supports expanding affordable childcare options, strengthening mental health services, easing the transitions to middle and high school, and enhancing secondary language instruction and exposure.

Karen Tamis is an attorney with her own public policy consulting practice, currently working as a senior policy analyst for the County of Los Angeles and nonprofit organizations. She has represented children and families in education law across Los Angeles County and served as a Clerk to Justice Norman Epstein on the Appellate Court of California. She helped found and expand literacy programs throughout Northern California.

“Karen Tamis brings the drive, relevant experience, and forward-thinking policy approach that South Pasadena schools need,” said Zahir Robb, President of the South Pasadena Unified School Board.
