Letter to the Editor | A Plastic Free July

A global movement to help people become part of the solution to plastic pollution

Letters to the Editor | SouthPasadenan.com News
July is time for Plastic Free July, a global movement that helps people be part of the solution to plastic pollution.
You can go all in or pick a few items to switch out. Some ideas are to ask restaurants not to put utensils or plastic straws in take-out food, to buy unpackaged fruits & vegetables at the store or the Farmers’ Market, use bar soap instead of liquid soap, and to use your own clean reusable or cloth bags when shopping. The last will also help support the city’s plastic bag ban. Although, please do not start an argument; it is not worth it.
There are more ideas at PlasticFreeJuly.org, and even a challenge to sign up for, if you’re into that.
Get ideas locally at Handle, located in the city on Mission Street, Wild Terra and Sustain LA, which are one Gold Line stop away, and No Tox Life.
After the month has ended, assess. If things went well, maybe switch a few products each month during the year. The hard part is recognizing all the plastic items in our lives and to think about how to replace them. However, once you start discovering alternatives, it can be addictive.
