South Pasadena police officers responded to the 1700 block of Lyndon Street last week after reports of two suspicious individuals in the backyard of a home.

According to SPPD Captain Brian Solinsky, on June 13 at about 2:20 p.m., an alert resident noticed the pair walking to the rear of a neighbor’s house. Authorities say the resident did not recognize the subjects and quickly called police.

When officers arrived at the scene, they questioned the two individuals, 43-year-old Los Angeles resident Isidro Gutierrez and 45-year-old Elpedio Reyes of Orange, who reportedly said they were at the home to perform irrigation work on behalf of the owner.

Not long after, police discovered a pickup truck the two men drove to the residence. Officials say the truck had an altered registration tab. A search of the vehicle was conducted and officers found a stolen firearm inside the truck and other items of evidentiary value.

Reyes, a convicted felon, was arrested for being in possession of the firearm. Gutierrez was charged for possession of stolen property.
