Tournament of Roses 2020 | South Pasadena Unveils New Rendering of Float

‘Victory at Last,’ a Salute to Women’s Suffrage, has been selected as theme of South Pasadena’s float in the 2020 Tournament of Roses Parade

RENDERING: Mike Mera | SouthPasadenan.com News | On Friday, the South Pasadena Tournament of Roses Committee unveiled its 2020 float rendering ‘Victory at Last,’ a Salute to Women’s Suffrage for the 2020 Tournament of Roses Parade

South Pasadena Tournament of Roses officials released its float rendering for the 2020 Rose Parade on Friday.

“Victory at Last,” a salute to Women’s Suffrage, has been selected as the official theme of South Pasadena’s float in the 2020 Tournament of Roses Parade on New Year’s Day.

Graphic designer Mike Mera created the rendering. He returns for a second straight year in support of the South Pasadena float committee.

Elements on the float feature a scroll depicting the 19th Amendment, along with iconic period pieces representing women from the start of the movement, including hats and jewelry worn at the time.

The city’s float last January – “Three Little Birds” – won the Mayor Award. In 2016, it came away with the National Trophy for its entry “Fishing Follies.”

Tournament of Roses officials accepted South Pasadena’s float design in February during what’s known as the Theme Draft. Mera then enhanced the original concept by adding features and plenty of color.

“We hope to have another crowd pleaser,” said South Pasadena Tournament of Roses President Courtney Dunlap, noting the float won’t consist much animation. “We are going to have a lot of floral on it.”

Tournament of Roses officials have selected “Power of Hope” as the overall theme of the 2020 Rose Parade.
