Tigers’ Soccer Team Takes Second

South Pasadena High’s girls’ soccer team rolls to 3-0 win over La Habra in the Best in the West Soccer Tournament but fall to Marlborough in title game

South Pasadena High’s girls’ soccer team finished second in their division at last weekend’s Best in the West Tournament hosted by Newport Harbor High.

The Tigers lost to Marlborough High 2-1 in the finale after pounding La Habra 3-0 in the semifinal match.

South Pasadena face Marlborough at California High in Whittier and La Habra at Fedde Sports Complex in Hawaiian Gardens.

All the scoring against Marlborough took place in the first half. Emma Barrera had South Pasadena’s only goal, which came unassisted off a direct kick. Tigers’ goalie Noemi Howland had nine saves in the contest.

South Pasadena played a scoreless first half against La Habra before finding the next three times in the second.

Uma Hornish put the Tigers on the board with an assist by Rainey Tilley. Emma Barrera scored the next goal before Hornish tallied her second goal on the day.

Howland made four saves in the shutout.

South Pasadena is 7-2 overall and will open the Rio Hondo League season January 5 on the road against rival San Marino. The match gets underway at 3:30 p.m.
