LA COUNTY WILL ENTER A RED FLAG WARNING THIS THURSDAY AND FRIDAY, October 15-16, due to expected critical fire weather conditions. The National Weather Service Los Angeles is predicting a Santa Ana Wind event peaking late this week—gusty, low humidity, and hot temperatures that pose a substantial wildfire risk.

The warning will be in place from 6AM Thursday until 10PM Friday. Please remain vigilant during this critical time.

Know your zone: Knowing your zone is critical to staying safe during a public safety emergency. Zones will be used in emergency notifications to communicate who is impacted and what action to take. Find your zone at protect.genasys.com/.

What to do today:

  • Prepare your home and property. Tie down structures or furniture that could be blown around. To safeguard your physical structure of your home and property from wildfire, see this guide from Ready LA County.

  • Sign up for emergency alerts. Enroll in AlertLA County notifications as well as notifications from your local community, if applicable.

  • Gather supplies in a ‘Go-Bag’ that can be grabbed during an evacuation. Make sure to include medicine, food, water, and other essential items you may need. Make sure devices are charged and you are in touch with neighbors.

  • Prepare for evacuation. Designate an emergency meeting location outside the hazard area. Identify several routes to leave your home in case one or more are blocked. Have supplies for children and pets identified or packed. If you may need extra time to evacuate, be prepared to leave early (before official notice).
