Highlighting its many activities, the City of South Pasadena has produced a new “Arroyo Seco Recreation Area” brochure packed with information.
The idea behind the colorful Disneyland-style map was hatched last year about the time the new Arroyo Seco Bicycle and Pedestrian Path opened.
“We were thinking about ways to promote the bike path, and realized that the city does not have a user-friendly map or guide to the Arroyo area in general,” explained John Pope, South Pasadena’s public information officer. “So it grew from a way to promote the new bike path to promoting all recreational opportunities in the Arroyo.”
The city partnered with the South Pasadena-based firm Good Citizen Media Group to produce the map and brochure featuring many attractions just out the door of South Pasadenans, including batting cages, an 18-hole golf course, clubhouse and grill, dog park, driving range, gazebo, horse stables, miniature golf, a nature center, playground, skate park, tennis/squash courts, baseball and soccer fields and just over half mile bicycle and walking path.
The Arroyo Seco Recreation area “really is a hidden gem,” said Hope, explaining it sits in a natural canyon “so it is somewhat hidden from view if you’re driving on surrounding streets. As we were researching the project we heard from South Pas residents who a) had never been to the arroyo at all, or b) had been there for one activity or another but didn’t realize how expansive it is. So we hope the brochure will help increase the use of arroyo facilities among our residents.”
Hope said there’s a larger effort to market South Pasadena to visitors and tourists, “who will then generate additional business activity at our local shops and restaurants,” he explained.
In addition to the printed piece that will be distributed throughout the city, a digital version can be found on the city’s website. It can be downloaded and printed.
