On Friday, March 6, 2026, the South Pasadena Little League (SPLL) hosted its annual Opening Night celebration from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Arroyo Seco Baseball fields. The historic local event brought families and volunteers together to officially kick off the spring sports season.
Historic League Roots
Established in 1952, SPLL proudly holds the title of the oldest Little League in California. The organization serves local children aged four to 13 across different skill levels.
According to the league, their primary goal has always been to “foster a love for baseball and softball in the hearts of children and their families for generations.”
Event Highlights
This year’s opening celebration featured three showcase games, spotlighting local talent in juniors baseball, majors baseball, and majors softball.
Beyond the diamond, younger attendees enjoyed a festival-like atmosphere. Thanks to the SPLL Board of Directors, all opening day amenities were provided for free so parents could focus on watching their children play.
Activities included:
-
Face painting stations
-
Inflatable obstacle courses
-
Snack bars and a barbecue
Building Community Ties
John Ramos, SPLL Fall Softball Coordinator and SPHS assistant varsity softball coach, emphasized the event’s local impact.
“I think it’s more about the community coming together to be a part of the Little League experience,” Ramos shared. “This is all about what the league should be.”
The night also provided a valuable opportunity for high school players from South Pasadena High School to interact with younger athletes, building a strong foundation for future CIF competitors.
