Congratulations to SPHS junior, Hanniel Park, who earned second place, and freshman Amelia Tran, who earned honorable mention, in the 2023 Congressional Art Competition. Both students were recognized by Congresswoman Judy Chu during an awards ceremony held at Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens on April 13, 2023.

Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in each congressional district. Since the Artistic Discovery competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated.

Students submit entries to their representative’s office, and panels of congressional district artists select the winning entries. In the 28th District of California, the judges represented the Art Center College of Design. SPHS students’ winning works will be displayed individually at Congresswoman Judy Chu’s Pasadena and Claremont offices.
