“ A night of legends, and legends yet to be ”

A beautifully apt way of describing SPARC’s “Night of 100 Artists”, a massive undertaking featuring 100 of some of the best artists and illustrators the industry has to offer.

A fundraiser with a catch; those who bought a ticket were guaranteed a little masterpiece to take home with them – a memento with significance.

Simply incredible was the magnitude of the featured artists that came together to contribute a piece for the fundraiser. Amongst those were dominating forces of pure craft, Robert Williams, William Stout, Todd Schorr, Gary Baseman, David Shannon, Van Arno, and many others. A number of local artists – authorities of the art world in their own right – were featured as well, including Blue Trimarch, Jeff Burke, Chirstian Clayton, Ellen Surrey, Laurie Hendricks and Mark Whiting.

The evening offered a unique balance of sophistication and mysticism, with a resident magician and fortuneteller, a bar replete with cocktails and craft brews, and delicious hours’derves and tacos provided by Kontiki Tacos.

The night was not short of surprises, as the raffle commenced with a raffle ball cannon that shot winning numbers into the crowd.

Anticipation was palpable as many hoped theirs was the next number called, hoping to snag their favorite piece.

One of which was Mayor Dr. Marina Khubesrian who scanned the remaining pieces, identifying the painting she had been eyeing all night, “ Is it still here? Yes! That’s the one I wanted, it’s still here!” said with a sigh of relief.

But what made the night truly special was the display of absolute artistic prowess that took center stage. In less than a month the SPARC board was able to pull together a commanding roster of artists.

By the end of the night thousands of dollars were raised by generous supporters of the arts – a testament to the fact that South Pasadena is indeed an arts town.
