The City of South Pasadena, in collaboration with South Pasadena Beautiful and Friends of South Pas Nature Park, is set to host the 2025 Sustainability Fair, Plant Swap, and Garden Tour. This highly anticipated event will take place on Saturday, March 29, 2025, from 1–4 PM at the Arroyo Seco Woodland and Wildlife Park.
Sustainability Fair: Engage with Local Environmental Initiatives
Attendees will have the opportunity to meet South Pasadena’s sustainability team and discuss key programs designed to enhance the city’s environmental initiatives. Representatives from various environmental organizations will also be present to share insights on adopting a more sustainable lifestyle.
Plant Swap: Bring, Exchange, and Grow
South Pasadena Beautiful will once again host its popular annual plant swap. Residents are encouraged to participate by bringing a labeled plant to exchange. However, attendees are asked not to bring excessive cuttings that may end up in compost bins. Generous contributions from Artemisia Nursery, Bellefontaine Nursery, and Bartlett Tree Experts will ensure a diverse selection of native and low-water-use plants for participants.
Garden Workshop: Learn to Cultivate Native Plants
Renowned horticulturist Antonio Sanchez of the Santa Monica Mountains Fund will present a workshop titled “Growing Your Own Native Plants from Cuttings and Seeds.” Participants will learn techniques for rooting cuttings of native plants like monkeyflowers, sages, and bush sunflowers, along with expert tips on successfully growing native plants from seeds.
Garden Tour: Explore South Pasadena’s Superbloom
Visitors can embark on a guided Garden Tour, led by knowledgeable volunteers, for a relaxing stroll through the park’s stunning superbloom. The tour will also feature engaging activities for children, including the Story Path and a Nature Scavenger Hunt, designed to inspire an appreciation for eco-friendly living.
How to Get to the Nature Park
The event venue is accessible from two main entrances:
- Upper Entrance: Located in the 100 block of Pasadena Avenue, east of the York Boulevard Bridge, with trails leading to the lower entrance.
- Lower Entrance: Situated just past the Arroyo Seco Golf Course driving range, with available parking on Lohman Lane. A paved shared-use path at the west end of Lohman Lane leads to the fair’s setup area.
For those arriving by bicycle, South Pas Active will host a free Bike Valet at the lower entrance, providing a convenient and eco-friendly way to access the event while enjoying the city’s riverfront bike path.
