The South Pasadena Senior Center, located at 1102 Oxley Street in South Pasadena invites senior citizens to take advantage of programs and services offered to enhance their quality of life daily

The following will be offered:

Friday, June 21, 1 p.m. – Friday Cinema featuring “The Mule” a 2018 film, Drama/Mystery, lasting 1 hour and 55 minutes. All seniors are welcome.

Monday, June 24, 10:30 a.m. – Presentation on “Bullying” – Studies suggest about 1 in 5 seniors encounter bullying. It is an outgrowth of frustrations characteristic in communal settings, as well a reflection of issues unique to getting older. Many elderly see their independence and sense of control disappear, and, for some, becoming a bully can feel like regaining some of that lost power. Presenter will provide tips on how to deal with these personalities and suggestions on who to reach out for help. Presented by Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health.

Monday, June 24, 1:15 p.m. – Foreign Film day featuring “Shoplifters” a 2018 film, language Japanese, Drama/Crime, lasting 2 hours 1 minute. Open to the public.

Tuesday, June 25, 11a.m. – Stroke Support Group – meets Tuesdays (expect 2nd Tuesday). Meet survivors, share courage, change focus to celebrate progress. Led by volunteer Reams Freedman with the Stroke Association.

Tuesday, June 25, 10:30 a.m. – Managing Blood Pressure: How to lower it naturally – Understand what can be done to reduce blood pressure and maintain naturally. Presented by Dr. Christine Smith.

Wednesday, June 26, 9:30 a.m. – Crochet & Knitting – Learn to create fun gifts or bring your own projects. Instructor: Jean Shono, $5 per class. 

Wednesday, June 26, 1p.m. – Elder Wisdom – The group honors and respects one another. They share resources and support each other as they journey through what can be the best part of our lives. Finding meaning and purpose today and every day. Group facilitator: Oliver Beaudette, certified Sage-Ing leader.

Friday, June 28, 10 am to 12 noon – Lung Health Workshop – Are you at risk for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)? Free spirometry testing by a Registered Respiratory Therapist offered to all workshop attendees! Lung health begins where we live, learn, work and play. Air pollution, smoking, chemicals in the home or workplace and chronic disease can make it hard to breathe.

Friday, June 28, 11:45 a.m. – Birthday Celebration – The Center will celebrate all honorees. The Honorees will receive free lunch and birthday card. Cake is provided for all attending the luncheon. Advanced sign up required. Sponsored by Anthem Blue Cross – Kaoru Nagano.

Friday, June 28, 1 p.m. – Friday Cinema featuring “Gosnell” a 2018 film, Drama/Crime, lasting 1 hour and 33 minutes. All seniors are welcome.

Lunch is served Monday through Friday by reservation. Menu for the week is as follow:

June, Friday 21 – Spinach Ricotta Lasagna (white sauce)

Monday, June 24 – Italian Sausage w/ peppers & onions

Tuesday, June 25 – Ham & Spinach Quiche

Wednesday, June 26 – Pork Chop (no bone)

Thursday, June 27 – Ham & Muenster Cheese Sandwich

June, Friday 28 – Hamburgers w/ Mushrooms & bun. Cost per person $2.25 for onsite and reservations are necessary. Home delivered meals are offered to those that are frail or recovering from illness, cost per meal $2.50, contact the office for any application.
