On Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at 1:55 a.m., officers from the South Pasadena Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the 800 block of Forest Avenue on a report of a burglary in progress.
The 911 caller reported he was awakened by breaking glass; when he investigated the source of the noise, he discovered an unknown woman was inside his children’s bedroom.
The first officer arrived on the scene in under one minute, and backup officers arrived moments later. Through the broken front window, officers could see the two adult residents detaining the suspect, 34-year-old Tanya Hullinger of Anaheim.
Officers were able to take Hullinger into custody without incident. During questioning, Hullinger told officers she kicked out the front window because she thought she lived at the location. Hullinger was later held for a mental health evaluation. Criminal charges are pending.
