An artists’ reception was held to open the SPARC Gallery Annual SPHS Juried Art Show on May 27. The annual art show was begun by the South Pasadena Chamber and Scott Feldman several years ago as a way to support the high school arts department by showcasing their artwork. In recent years, SPARC has continued the tradition in the now renamed SPARC Gallery and the art show is juried by SPARC with Dr. Claudia Bohn-Spector being one of the key jury members.

The artists whose artwork juried into the SPARC gallery show are Saliko Adams, Jackson Baugham, Ashton Carless, Estella Dasheill, Mateo Diez, Mahima Girish, Elaine Yiling Gong, Michael Dong-Hye Kim, Ameen Makavand, Amani Mbugua, Harper McCallie, David Perez Espinoza, Michael Stukan, Lily Turner Kipke, Clara Ubalejo, Rebecca Won, Maggie Wu, Sarah Ha Young Yang, and Brandon Yung.

1st place prize of $250 was awarded to Sarah Yang

Congratulations to the winners and to all of the juried artists. The art will be on display at the SPARC gallery located inside the Chamber of Commerce, 1121 Mission Street, through June 23.

The SPHS art department will be participating in the Congressional Arts Show on Saturday June 3 at 1:30p.m. at the Huntington Library. They have three students’ artwork in the top eight and the place order will be revealed at the event by Congresswoman Judy Chu. The public is invited to attend. SPHS Choir may also be performing.
