Enhance your quality of life by taking part in a wide range of events at the South Pasadena Senior Center.

The South Pasadena Senior Center invites the public to take advantage of the following programs and services geared to enhance ones quality of life. The Center is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is located at 1102 Oxley Street in beautiful South Pasadena.

The following will be offered the week of February16-23:

•Friday, February 16, 10:30 a.m., “Medi-Ccal for Low Income Senior Citizens” – A representative from Center for Health Care Rights will explain: Who is eligible for Medi-Cal with a Share of Cost? How does Medi-Cal Share of Cost Work? The program is useful when having to place a loved one in an assisted living facility. Learn where once can get assistance. Sign up needed.

•Monday, February 19, 2018 CLOSED “Presidents Day”

•Tuesday, February 20, 11 am to 12:30 pm, “Stroke Support Group” meets regularly on Tuesdays, meet survivors, share courage, change focus to celebrate progress. Led by Reams Freedman from Stroke Association.

•Tuesday, February 20, 2:30 p.m. ”THE MYTHS OF HUMAN EVOLUTION”
The connection between humans and the rest of the animal kingdom has long been a controversial issue outside science, but not within it. Much of the resistance comes from deep misunderstandings about the evidence and misconceptions about how evolution works. In honor of Darwin’s birthday this week, we will look closely at the evidence for how humans are related to other living things. Lecture is offered a not charge to members of the Senior Center. •Wednesday, February 21, 10 a.m., “Book Club” facilitated by Liz Giffen-Glad meets the third Wednesday of each month. Membership to Center required. Contact the Center for book title and questions.

•Wednesday, February 21, “Gymnasium for the Mind”
Increase your thinking speed! Boost your memory! Deepen concentration! Expand your creativity! Gymnasium for The Mind is a dynamic program of directed games and exercises that gives your brain a workout and promotes a wide range of cognitive functions in a fun engaging way. 6 week session for $30. Payment is due at sign up.

•Thursdays, February 22, 5 – 7:30 p.m. VITA Tax Assistance for Senior Citizens – Free tax preparation offered by appointments for those having earned income for 2017 under $60,000. Service is provided with IRS-certified volunteers. Sign up today

•Friday, February, 23, 2018 ”Chinese New Year Celebration,” sponsored by South Pasadena Chinese American Club held at War Memorial Building. Reservations are required, contact the Senior Center.
