“Operation Cookie” for hospitalized, homeless, and special needs veterans is set to launch soon. Dozens of cookies will be distributed to patients at veteran administration (VA) hospitals, to veterans in area convalescent care facilities, to the Wounded Warriors Battalion at Camp Pendleton, to homeless veterans served by the VA and to other groups serving physically and emotionally challenged men and women veterans.
“We hope you are already planning a favorite cookie recipe or planning to shop at a special bakery or market for cookies,” said Barbara Biber, a key organizer of the event hosted by the Woman’s Club of South Pasadena. “We hope we can count on your support of this important club event. Increasing number of veterans look forward to being remembered and to receive a sweet treat.”
Cookie deliveries (minimum of two dozen) can be made to the Woman’s Club, 1424 Fremont Avenue in South Pasadena, from 4-7 p.m. on May 21 and from 7 to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 22. Convenient curbside service is available both days.
“We also need helping hands on the cookie assembly line, or packing the cookie boxes in cartons,” said Biber, noting that effort will take place May 22 from 8:30 a.m. to noon. She is also asking for help the evening of May 21 when cookie collections and some packing will begin.
The 2024 Operation Cookie team includes: Barbara, Sally, Brandy, Sheila, Lisa, Suzanne, Warren, Liz, Raquel and Thomas.
The organization also welcomes financial donations to help defray expenses. For more information, Call or text t 213-300-9305 / Email: spwc1899@aol.com.
