Mosaic South Pasadena | Annual Prayer Breakfast May 4

All invited to the Eighth Annual South Pasadena Prayer Breakfast: “Help & Hope: Embracing Those Who Hold Us Up.”

The Eighth Annual South Pasadena Prayer Breakfast will take place at the historic Rialto Theatre on May 4, the planning committee announced this week.

This year’s theme is “Help & Hope: Embracing Those Who Hold Us Up,” and the keynote speaker will be author and marriage and family therapist Dr. Jessica L. ChenFeng. An associate professor for the marriage and family therapy program at Fuller Theological Seminary and for medical education at Loma Linda University, ChenFeng addresses the well-being of therapists and physicians as well as supports the mental health of Asian Americans in our community.

During this year’s event, the committee will also honor the late Frank Ponnet for his impact on encouraging prayer in our community and his civil service. Mr. Ponnet served as vice president for the South Pasadena Prayer Breakfast committee and was instrumental in the event’s inception and development.

“Mosaic South Pasadena has done beautiful work at restoring the historic Rialto Theatre unique to our town,” said Nancy Norris, president of the South Pasadena Prayer Breakfast planning committee. “It is a wonderful opportunity for the city to come and see this re-imagined space and be with us for the Prayer Breakfast.”

This is the first time Mosaic South Pasadena at the Rialto Theatre will host the South Pasadena Prayer Breakfast. The previous seven in-person events were held at Oneonta Congregational Church and Holy Family Church. “Having the event at the Rialto is a part of our ongoing vision to expand our partnership with local church communities to host and offer new leadership,” Norris said.

The Prayer Breakfast will be free and will take place indoors at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at the Rialto Theatre, 1023 Fair Oaks Ave., South Pasadena. Complimentary breakfast-style refreshments will be provided in the foyer. Our program will begin in the theater promptly at 8:15 am. Online reservations and grant applications for interested organizations will be available through the organization’s website, www.sopasprayerbreakfast.org.

South Pasadena Prayer Breakfast is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded by local citizens and funded entirely by private donations. Since 2016, the group has raised $25,000 for local charities and programs that actively support prayer and service to our community. “Any nonprofit can apply for a grant, especially if it serves South Pasadena and our surrounding community,” Norris said. “We welcome applications up until April 25, 2023. Not all may be granted, but we will do our best to honor specific requests for financial support.”
