Dave Kinnoin hopes financial support is on the way.

“Please help a very poor family in Mexico get the house they need,” said the South Pasadena resident, among a group who will soon be going the country to construct a home with members of the organization One Small House.

Over the past ten years, One Small House has built 75 homes in rural Mexico, the Mississippi Delta, Haiti and Shreveport, Louisiana.

According to its website, the organization identifies if a family is eligible to receive a new home by conducting in-person visits, vetting them through trusted contacts and community leaders, as well as requiring proof of land ownership. “This ensures that the homes being built go to those who will benefit most from a safe, secure new home,” said Kinnoin. “One Small House employs local labor to help a volunteer crew and purchases all materials within the community to stimulate the local economy.

In two weeks, One Small House volunteers will be back in Mexico for its annual winter build. “We’ll be constructing for Cristobal Sanchez, his wife Reyna de Jesus, and their two kids Gabriel and Danna,” said Kinnoin, a local musician. “The family was supposed to receive a home last year, but because of zoning issues in the neighborhood, it was delayed. They’ve remained incredibly grateful and patient for anything we can do. Finally, we’ll be able to get them into the new home they deserve.”

That is, if all the funding is in place. As always, every dollar we receive will go directly into this project,” insisted Kinnoin. “Any amount helps!”

He will be one of eight volunteer workers ensuring donations are properly spent. “One hundred percent of your gift is tax-deductible,” said Kinnoin. “Please join me to help make the Sanchez family’s dream of a safe, strong, beautiful, 320 square-foot house a reality.”

About $7,000 is still needed for One Small House to construct it latest home.
