It’s a good start, but Dave Kinnoin says more is still needed.
Kinnoin, a professional singer/songwriter, performs for Pickleberry Pie, an organization that provides music for children during their hospital stays.
To date, $13,500 has been raised toward a goal of $25,000 to help support the program, and the South Pasadena resident is encouraging other locals to chip into the cause.
“I have seen firsthand the joy a musical visit brings to a kid in the hospital,” explained Kinnoin. “It’s kind of like magic. For at least a little while, the child has a pal to hang out with, to sing and talk with, to bang on rhythm sticks and hum kazoos and shake maracas and tell stories and just have fun. It’s a play day away from needles and procedures and worries.”
Concerts are absolutely free, noted the local musician, “but it does cost us money to keep this program going,” he said. “That’s why I’m asking you to do as I do, and donate to Pickleberry Pie Hospital Concerts for Kids.”
According to the Pickleberry Pie website:
- Children and their families get free entertainment, brightening spirits and bringing joy and laughter.
- Hospital staff appreciates the break from routine and watching their patients smile.
- Performers love the opportunity to make a difference.
- Music reduces anxiety, improves mood and creates a better hospital environment.
Pickleberry Pie officials would like to raise the necessary funding by January 2, 2020 in order to schedule more hospital visits. “It’s 100% on the up-and-up,” said Kinnoin. “We do lasting good. We are a 501(c)(3), so your gift is tax-deductible.”
