Memorial Day, a day on which those who died in active military service are remembered, will be observed Monday, May 28, in South Pasadena with a special event at the War Memorial Building.
Those who lost their lives and the many who served in the military will be honored during a ceremony scheduled from 9 to 10 a.m. at one of South Pasadena’s most historic sites. The War Memorial Building is located at 435 Fair Oaks Avenue.
The event will feature a welcome by South Pasadena Mayor Dr. Richard D. Schneider. Poet and novelist Ronald Koertge, a South Pasadena resident, will be the guest speaker.
In addition to Koertge, the National Anthem will be sung by 7th grade student Maxine Park, and patriotic music will be performed by the Oneonta Chancel Choir and the Los Angeles Community Youth Choir.
David Niznik, a veteran, will be recognized and Congresswoman Judy Chu, whose 27th District represents South Pasadena, plans to attend.
Concluding the program, Schneider will thank those in the audience for serving in the Armed Services.
