Dodgers Trivia Night Saturday Sept. 17 | Woman’s Club of South Pasadena

The event at the South Pasadena Woman’s Club will feature trivia questions, a ballpark style meal, opportunity to get a Dodger themed caricature, live and silent auction, Lasorda wine tasting, and raffle.

A Dodger fan trivia night, emceed by the team’s official historian, Mark Langill, will take place on September 17 at the Woman’s Club of South Pasadena, starting at 5:30 p.m. Admission is $50.

Only Mark Langill, who will be hosting a Dodger trivia night on Saturday, September 17, at the Woman’s Club of South Pasadena, likely knows, well, this little nugget of trivia.

Langill points out there are two bits of unique knowledge relating to the Woman’s Club and the Dodgers.

“The organization was founded in 1899 – the same year Brooklyn won the first of two consecutive National League pennants,” he noted. “And the club’s current location was built in 1913 – the same year Brooklyn’s Ebbets Field ballpark opened.”

Langill is the Dodgers’ official historian, author of books about the team, a longtime resident of the city and graduate of South Pasadena High School.

And, of course, he’s also an expert when it comes to Dodger baseball. Little trivia about the team gets past him.

“The goal of the event is for everyone to celebrate a baseball atmosphere with the home team in Los Angeles heading to the playoffs for the 10th consecutive season,” he said. “It’s a chance to relive some of the great moments of the past while anticipating what might happen in October.”

Like many Southlanders, Langill is hopeful the Dodgers will be going back to the World Series and winning it.

He insists attendees at the upcoming trivia night don’t need to be hardcore Dodger fans, believing they know all the answers. Langill is promising a mix of easier to more difficult questions.

“The trivia will be conducted as a group so each table of eight will compete in a ‘nine-inning’ game,” he explained. “The majority of questions have multiple-choice answers.”

The event, which starts at the Woman’s Club, 1424 Fremont Avenue at 5:30 p.m., will include ballpark food – hotdogs, pretzels, nachos and sodas – a Lasorda wine tasting, prizes and a silent and live auction. Two baseball-themed character sketch artists will also be on hand. Beer and wine will be available for purchase.

All participants must be 14 years old or older. General admission tickets at $50 apiece will support philanthropy and service programs at the Woman’s Club, including efforts to aid veterans and breast cancer survivors along with the South Pasadena High scholarship program.

Tickets are $50 per person and tables of 8 will be sold on a first reserved basis. For tickets, go to https://www.womansclubsp.com/upcoming-events.  For additional information on the event, contact Sherry at 626-437-6251.
