Five fire departments responded to reports of a fire Friday afternoon at approximately 12:55 p.m., located at a residence on Wayne Ave. in South Pasadena.
According to Eric Zanteson, Division Chief for the South Pasadena Fire Department, the initial reports cited, “smoke coming from the windows to the rear”
First to respond was South Pasadena Engine 81, along with San Marino 91, to the rear of the structure, where a majority of the smoke was seen to be produced.

“There was heavy smoke in the interior,” says Zaneston, “(it) took a while to clear it to gain access, once inside they were able to determine that it was possibly a malfunctioning appliance on the first floor with some extension into the walls to the exterior.”
Firefighters from South Pasadena, San Marino, Alhambra, Pasadena, and Monterey Park deployed ladders and chainsaws to gain access to the structure and assisted with overhaul, while neighbors gathered to survey the damage.
The division chief clarified that the owners were not home at the time of the incident but they were in contact with neighbors, being updated on the situation.
There were no pets at the residence and no injuries to fire personnel or civilians reported at the time.
