YST is excited to announce that they have the rights to produce, record, and stream the crazy fun musical Shrek Jr.!
This is their 2020 Membership Produced show and it is a great opportunity for the kids to experience mounting a production in these challenging times. YST had great success with their Summer Camp productions and is excited to share the experience with more youth actors!
“If you are still hesitant to do a show on Zoom because of your experience with being online for school, let go of that notion”, says Gloria Bennett, YST producer, “because it is FAR from doing school on Zoom. Every camper that I spoke to about doing our summer camp shows online has said it is nothing like a school day. We keep you busy in different breakout rooms working on things for the show, or playing improv games, and we even take a break in groups so you can visit with friends and make new friends. It is a great positive outlet for your children’s energy and creativity and a lot of fun to boot!”
Shrek Jr. is a musical version of the popular Dreamworks movie Shrek, and contains fun and surprises even for fans of the original film. The entire production is no-contact, with rehearsals held once a week on Saturdays on Zoom.
“I think it is so important right now to keep theatre alive in whatever format we can manage,” suggests Jack Bennett, YST director. “It may be awhile until we can gather in a live format but keeping the arts alive seems more vital than ever to maintain our very humanity, not to mention it’s fun! We know our youth desperately need an outlet right now, and even with all the current challenges, we haven’t stopped working to provide that.”
Auditions are on Zoom on Saturday, August 8th. For more information, and to register, go to: www.YoungStarsTheatre.org/auditions.
