Young Stars Theatre is bringing a new show to their stage, but you might know the story – it starts in Kansas, with a little girl, a little dog and a tornado, and ends with some ruby slippers.  Ring any bells?  That’s right, it’s The Wizard of Oz!

YST actors and audiences do have some favorites they return to, notably Seussical Jr which is in rehearsal right now, but this is their first time to take on The Great and Powerful Oz.  “There isn’t really a reason we’ve never done it, it just hasn’t happened,” says Jack Bennett, YST Artistic Director and husband to YST’s producer Gloria Bennett.  “We’re very excited to take on this timeless classic story.  I remember when I was kid – before you could record TV, remember that? – waiting and being so excited the night The Wizard of Oz was going to be on TV.  I seem to remember it happened about once a year.  The flying monkeys, the melting witch, Emerald City, it was all so magical and fascinating to me.  We can’t wait to try and recreate some of that magic on our stage with our kids.”

They have two audition sessions on February 2nd, 10am to 12pm and 12pm to 2pm (so you can still make it home for kick off!), and a video audition option if necessary.  Auditions are open to 18 years old and under, and first timers to experienced actors are all welcome.  Times, dates, info and audition registration are all online at www.YoungStarsTheatre.org/auditions
