The beloved Wine & Song series continues its summer run with a special event on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at the Sierra Madre Playhouse, located at 87 W Sierra Madre Blvd. Doors open at 6 p.m., and music begins promptly at 7 p.m.
While the concert series searches for a new permanent venue, events are being held at various locations. At some, organizer Brad Colerick is required to carry general liability insurance, prompting a fundraising initiative to cover the $1,140 cost of an annual policy. With two $175 donations already received, Colerick is seeking additional support from the community.
Animated Short Preview from ArtCenter Intern Annaline Nugraha
The upcoming show includes a sneak preview of a new animated short created by ArtCenter intern Annaline Nugraha. The film, a visual accompaniment to Colerick’s song “Lines in the Dirt,” explores themes of boundaries and family conflict through metaphor and illustration. Nugraha has developed the concept, characters, and storyboard over a ten-week internship with the Deep Magic Song & Drawing Co..
Featured Performers: Tipps & Obermiller, Chris Hawkes, and Luke Wade
The musical lineup is a compelling mix of seasoned singer-songwriters:
- Tipps & Obermiller, the Fort Worth-based duo of Hilary Tipps and Steve Obermiller, bring tight harmonies and heartfelt songwriting. Their latest album, MacGuffin, follows the critically praised debut Love (and Other Mysteries).
- Chris Hawkes, an Austin-based multi-instrumentalist and producer, joins the stage alongside Luke Wade, a soulful singer from Hermosa Beach known for reaching the Top 8 on Season 7 of NBC’s The Voice. Wade’s vocal style has drawn comparisons to Ray Lamontagne and Otis Redding, with a performance résumé that includes NFL halftime shows and international tours.
No Concessions, Local Dining Encouraged
While no food or drinks will be sold at the venue, attendees are encouraged to enjoy one of Sierra Madre’s many local restaurants and bars before the show.
