El Centro Street was abuzz with activity as Arroyo Vista Wildcats and their parents made their way to their first day of school Wednesday August 16 for the 2017-18 school year. Several hundred youngsters, backpacks on, lunches packed, scurried to meet their new teachers and find the classrooms they will call theirs this year.

Says parent Jessie Mobley, “we were all really excited to see friends and meet Max’s new teacher. But it’s hard getting back into the routines like making lunch the night before and remembering to pack a water bottle!” Her son Max said, “my teacher is the one with the cool room.”

Parent of a 4th grader, Samantha Montes said, “honestly, I am very excited to go back to the normal swing of things. What excited me most was finding out that my son is so happy about the teacher he’s going to have for 4th grade.” She went on to say, “it was fun watching the parents of the kindergartners; their excitement was contagious. I could feel their worry as well as their zeal!”

So many things to look forward to as these hot summer days roll into, eventually, the crispness of Fall, and with that, Fall Sing, Halloween Parade, art projects and Thanksgiving! But for today, parents seemed relieved to have gotten their kids off to school and could then relax, finding familiar faces and meeting new ones.

A welcome coffee was held and parents socialized and lingered after the students found their classes and teachers. Principal Cheryl Busick was joined by new Vice Principal Kyle Bender. Busick says this school year begins with much anticipation and excitement, beginning with Back To School Night August 24 and Family Movie Night August 25 at 7pm in the courtyard.
