The first significant storm of the season pounded the Southland and South Pasadena was not excluded as some areas reported about 2 inches of rain.
The storm caused havoc for commuters on the Arroyo Seco Parkway as a section of the roadway flooded in the vicinity of Via Marisol and stranded several motorists in water two feet deep. The ensuing closure caused a massive traffic backup that also impacted local surface streets and onramps.
Parents and kids heading to schools had to maneuver over puddles and dodge fallen branches. Arroyo Drive flooded and turned into a river.
