The United States Postal Service (USPS) will honor the 250th anniversaries of the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, and U.S. Marine Corps with the release of three new Forever stamps. The First Day of Issue ceremony will take place on Friday, May 16, 2025, at 11 a.m. EDT at Freedom Plaza, 1325 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Washington, DC. The event is free and open to the public.
To attend, participants are encouraged to RSVP at usps.com/armedforcesstamps. The announcement is being shared online using the hashtag #ArmedForces250Stamps.
Honoring Centuries of Service and Sacrifice
The commemorative stamps pay tribute to the enduring legacy and service of the U.S. military’s three oldest branches. Each played a foundational role in securing America’s independence and has remained a pillar of national defense ever since.
The Army, Navy, and Marine Corps all trace their roots back to 1775, when the Second Continental Congress established the Continental Army on June 14, the Continental Navy on October 13, and authorized the Continental Marines on November 10. Though disbanded after the Revolutionary War, these forces were later reconstituted to meet the growing needs of the young nation.
A Design Reflecting Strength and Tradition
Designed by USPS Art Director Antonio Alcalá, each of the three Forever stamp panes features a symbolic emblem of the respective branch—Army, Navy, or Marine Corps—set against a clean white background. The design includes the inscriptions:
- “250 YEARS OF SERVICE”
- “SINCE 1775”
- “FOREVER/USA”
These stamps represent not only a celebration of history but a tribute to the values of loyalty, honor, duty, and courage that define the U.S. Armed Forces.
