For more than a decade, Dark Spirits has been one of South Pasadena’s best-kept nights out: serious pours, a sit-down dinner, phenomenal custom chocolates, great conversation, and a room full of the people who build and run this town. What You’re Walking Into
‘Angel’s Envy’ is the featured distiller this year, pouring a range of bourbons and whiskeys, including a top-shelf expression finished in peach schnapps barrels. Dinner is an elevated sit-down affair, with dessert from South Pasadena’s own Sakura Kashikawa. Marsada Chocolate infuses the night’s whiskey into chocolates that are sampled at the table and then auctioned. Cigars from Fair Oaks Cigar Shop close out the evening.
New for 2026, Angel’s Envy is bringing an engraver, and a run of commemorative Dark Spirits 2026 bottles will go up for auction.
“It’s like a festival,” said Dylan Burke, who runs the event with fellow F.A.T.E. Foundation founder Chris Maines. “You get to talk to a lot of really great people.”
Rep. Judy Chu is expected to attend, along with members of the South Pasadena City Council.
Where The Money Goes
Every dollar from Dark Spirits goes to the F.A.T.E. Foundation, ‘Fostering Ambition Towards Excellence‘, a South Pasadena nonprofit founded by five local friends to move foster youth into careers in the skilled trades. The foundation has already paid one young woman’s way through a union pre-apprenticeship program, and it is now building a grant to cover the boots, tools and work gear new tradespeople need on day one.
Up to half of foster youth face homelessness at some point, a figure the founders cite often. A union career changes that math for good. Your ticket to tomorrow night is part of how it happens.
