The South Pasadena Preservation Foundation (SPPF) will host a guided historical walking tour, “The Land of Milk and Money,” on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at 3:30 p.m., offering a curated look at one of the city’s most compelling neighborhood transformations.
Set across the Buena Vista Historic District and Prospect Circle Historic District, the tour traces the evolution of South Pasadena from its agricultural foundations to a center of early twentieth-century prosperity.
From Creamery to Estates: A Neighborhood Transformed
Long before Buena Vista Street became known for its architecturally significant homes, it was part of a working landscape—once home to the Raab Creamery, a local dairy operation that served a growing Southern California region.
Within a matter of decades, that pastoral setting gave way to a collection of refined, architect-designed residences built by industrialists, entrepreneurs, and civic leaders drawn to the area’s opportunity and promise.
“The Land of Milk and Money” explores this shift in detail, highlighting:
