Escorted by fellow officers in patrol vehicles, runners representing the South Pasadena Police Department made their way along city streets Thursday morning carrying the Olympic torch. The annual Law Enforcement Torch run event which raises funds for the Special Olympics is run through various jurisdictions around the country.

The run, which started in Wichita, Kansas in 1981 and is the largest grassroots fundraising movement for the Special Olympics. SPPD has participated in the event almost since it came to Southern California police agencies. The SPPD runners ran up Fair Oaks Avenue and down Mission Street before passing the flame to members of the LAPD on York Blvd in Highland Park.
