Local middle schools, representing more than 400 runners, competed last week in the 12th annual South Pasadena Middle School Cross Country Classic.
Held in South Pasadena’s Garfield Park, competitions were held in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade categories in the event sponsored and organized by Aztlan Athletics and SPMS.
“It was successful as the event is being recognized as an important step in preparation for the athletes as they look ahead to the Mt. SAC Cross Country Invitational later in October,” said South Pasadena resident Jose Zavala, owner of Aztlan Athletics. “We are striving to build a very compatible regional cross country event for middle schools. We need to focus on this level in order to have consistent success in the Rio Hondo League at the high school level.”
Aztlan Athletics has managed, developed and operated community-based fundraising events since 1974. Among its races is the Tiger Run along the streets of South Pasadena in December.
The company’s next event is the 4-Mile Hill Challenge starting from Debs Park in Los Angeles. For more information, visit: 4MileHillChallenge.com
