U.S. News & World Report Announces its 2019 Best High Schools Rankings and the local campus made the prestigious list

It’s a lofty honor anytime U.S. News & World Report puts you among the best high schools in the United States, so South Pasadena High can relish in the fact it made the elite list.

More than 17,000 schools are ranked this year, an increase from 2,700 a year ago.

And where did South Pasadena fall out among the best?

A drumroll, please.

Noted by the magazine for its high AP participation and minority rates, the local high school ranks 622 in America with an overall score of 96.39 out of 100. South Pasadena High finished 87th in California.

A total of 1,579 California schools were honored in the 2019 U.S. News Best High Schools rankings.

According to U.S. News & World Report website, the Best High Schools rankings include data on a variety of factors – enrollment, student diversity, participation in free and reduced-price lunch programs, graduation rates and the results of state assessments. SPHS has a graduation rate of 93 percent.

Texas has three schools in the top 20 schools in the nation, the most of any state, follow by California and Arizona with two apiece.

In its report, U.S. News & World Report said: “South Pasadena Senior High is ranked 87th within California. Students have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement coursework and exams. The AP participation rate at South Pasadena Senior High is 63%. The total minority enrollment is 72%, and 15% of students are economically disadvantaged. South Pasadena Senior High is the only high school in the South Pasadena Unified.”
