South Pasadena High teams back in action following winter break

It’s time to go back to work for South Pasadena High School winter teams after a two-week winter break.

The following is a quick look at how each team is doing as Rio Hondo League action gets underway.

Boys’ Basketball

Under first-year coach Ernest Baskerville, the Tigers are 11-3 and travel to Blair on Wednesday before hosting La Cañada on Friday in Rio Hondo League action. Both games start at 7 p.m., the latter at South Pasadena Middle School.

The Tigers won their first nine games of the season before losing a pair. Since the two losses, they have won two out of three and have high hopes entering the league campaign.

Girls’ Basketball

South Pasadena, 8-9, hopes to get back to .500 Wednesday night when it faces La Cañada on Friday at 5:15 p.m. at home in its Rio Hondo League opener at South Pasadena Middle School.

Following that contest, the Tigers face Temple City on January 15 at home.

Boys’ Soccer

It has been an up-and-down season to date as the 3-4 Tigers travel to Blair on Wednesday, for a 3:15 contest against the Vikings.

On Friday, the Tigers host La Cañada at home, starting at 3:15 p.m. South Pasadena has yet to win a home match this season.

Girls’ Soccer

South Pasadena, under first-year coach Francisco Lopez, is 5-5-2 going into the Rio Hondo League season.

The Tigers face visiting Blair at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday in their league opener before traveling to La Cañada on Friday.
