It wasn’t even close, from the opening whistle to the final gun, as South Pasadena High’s football team throttled visiting Maywood CES 68-6 Thursday night.

The Tigers surged to a 38-6 halftime lead, dominating on both sides of the ball. The final two quarters ended quickly as both teams agreed to a running clock – no stoppage of the game – after halftime.

By then, the Tigers had completely dominated, making good use of its ground game behind quarterback Zachary Lee and running back Jason Hong, who teamed to pick up most of the offensive yardage.

South Pasadena Coach, Jeff Chi, went to his bench, calling on his reserves to get much of the playing time when the game was long decided.

The win moved the Tigers to 2-0 in pre-season play. Next up is a road game next Thursday to Baldwin Park High School, a first time matchup between the two schools.

“Maywood did not match up well against our team,” said Coach Jeff Chi after the game. “Our focus was on executing on both sides of the ball, and we got it done. Once we got ahead of the score, we were able to get all of our players into the game and showcase their skills. It was a collective effort in beating Maywood.” Looking ahead to the matchup against Baldwin Park High School, Chi said “we have a big challenge ahead of us in Baldwin Park on Thursday. We are going to fix our mistakes and prepare for a tough, physical game.”
