South Pasadenans Gather at Library Park for Patriotic Concert by Colburn Adult Wind Symphony

Thursday June 30

Dennis Zeisler conducts the Colburn Adult Wind Symphony at Library Park.

Just days before our grand 4th of July celebration, Colburn Adult Wind Symphony gave a free concert at Library Park in celebration of Independence Day. Hundreds gathered on the lawn with blankets and picnic dinners to take in a variety of patriotic marches that got everyone in the holiday spirit. This is the third year the wind symphony has performed on the Thursday before the 4th for South Pasadena and it was obvious that residents have come to love this new tradition in our town.

Council Member Diana Mahmud introduces Dennis Zeisler and the Colburn concert band.

The highly accomplished 50 piece concert band played rousing renditions of favorite marches for about a 90 minute concert which was led by Dennis Zeisler, board member of the John Philip Sousa Foundation. Some of the stellar repertoire included the theme from “Indiana Jones” by John Williams, “Amparito Roca” by Jaime Texidor, “Jig’ from St. Paul’s Suite” by Gustav Holst and “Celtic Hymns and Dances” by Eric Ewazen. South Pasadenan families could be seen swaying to the music as young children danced and marched to the music. It occurred during the Farmer’s Market so folks could grab a bite at the market and walk over to the concert. Such a great night!

Conductor Dennis Zeisler introduces the next piece.

Thank you to the Colburn School, the South Pasadena Public Library and the Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library for putting on such a fantastic event and special thanks to the South Pasadena Chamber of Commerce and the South Pasadena Community Services Department for their support and participation.
