South Pasadena STEPS RIGHT UP To Annual SPEF Fundraiser

By Vance Sanders

The South Pasadena Educational Foundation’s, or SPEF, annual Fundraiser Parti Gras, raised a Big Top of fun Saturday night. This year’s fundraiser theme was “Vintage Carnival”. Parti Gras Chairs Kathleen Michel & Larry Abelson did a great job of bringing this theme to life. Carnival midway games like Spin the Wheel, Ring Toss & Strongman High Striker were enjoyed. A real hot air balloon wicker basket provided a great photo op. Delicious food and tasty drinks from the best restaurants and bars South Pasadena has to offer were great to have and enjoy all in one place.

Greg Adamson painted a portrait of John Lennon live on stage. A live DJ and a full size Ferris Wheel made the party a one-of-a-kind experience, all in our own backyard, in our lovely Arroyo Seco Golf Course. Partygoers were encouraged to get into the vintage carnival spirit and dress up for the occasion. This brought out the best in our South Pasadena moms and dads. The party saw Ring Masters, Bearded Ladies, Trapeze Artist and a live box of popcorn.

As the parents danced and partied into the night, they all took comfort in the fact that this year-in-the-making event was all to benefit our kids. What better reason to come together and celebrate our tight knit and caring community? I look forward to what these hard working and creative parents come up with next year. Step Right Up to the carnival of fun and giving that is South Pasadena.
