Residents of the Monterey Hills neighborhood are voicing serious concerns about recurring unpermitted “mansion parties” that they say are disrupting the peace, endangering safety, and potentially operating illegally. The most recent event, held the night of June 14, 2025, was reported to have lasted past 3 a.m., leaving behind trash, vomit, and street damage—prompting calls for immediate city intervention.

Residents Report Unlicensed Events and Escalating Disorder

In a letter sent to South Pasadena Councilmember Primuth, new homeowner Mallory Buril described her frustrations over a troubling trend since moving to Flores de Oro in January. Buril noted that last month, a large party was held at a home on Camino Verde, which the homeowner later claimed was a graduation “mixer” that spiraled out of control.

Following that party, neighbors observed an increase in crime in the area, including a high-speed chase and a home invasion robbery occurring on the same street.

Party Promoted Online, Raises Safety and Legal Concerns

A second party at the same address was held on June 14 and openly promoted online through a link to a ticketed event page titled “Love Island Mansion Party.” According to Buril, partygoers were shuttled into the neighborhood and alcohol was served without any known permits. The event went on into the early morning hours and required police response after a fight broke out.

Despite the disturbance, the party was not shut down. Residents say the event violated city laws and environmental standards, pointing out the use of portable toilets along the residential street and the operation of what appears to be a commercial venue under the guise of a private residence.

SPPD Response and Call for Action

Buril stated that she contacted the South Pasadena Police Department (SPPD) and spoke to the watch commander, who said they had only been notified of the party an hour before it started and had just three officers on duty that night.

She emphasized that residents are increasingly frustrated by what appears to be a lack of enforcement. “In a city where I need a permit to trim my trees,” she wrote, “how is a resident allowed to operate a commercial party enterprise serving alcohol without a permit?”

Residents Request Immediate City Action

Buril is calling on Councilmember Primuth, Councilmember Ferguson (whose district includes most of Monterey Hills), and city officials to investigate the legality of such parties and work with the SPPD to increase patrols in the area.

The letter concludes with an appeal for swift action to protect the integrity and safety of the South Pasadena community.
