A passion to enhance a player’s experience, support from tireless, hard-working volunteers, and a love for the game are what Alberto Ocon lives for when it comes to overseeing the local Little League program.

“Our kids dedicate themselves and it shows when SPLL takes the fields,” said Ocon, president of South Pasadena Little League and proud to see three of its teams push through the demands of District 18 All-Star tournament play and continue on to Sectional competition this weekend. “The SPLL Board works nonstop to provide our kids the best playing atmosphere for them to develop and hone their skills.”

South Pasadena Little League is on a roll this summer, showcasing plenty of talent on and off the field. While softball and baseball performances have been strong, solid parental efforts in a myriad of roles are right there with them, helping to cement the league’s reputation as being one of the best around.

As part of 2022 District 18 All-Stars, there are 11 age divisions in baseball and softball. SPLL has had nine teams entered in tourneys and recorded seven district crowns, three on the softball side, four on baseball:

Softball Titles – 8-year-old, 10-year-old and 12-year-old.

Baseball Titles –11-year-old, 12-year old, Junior and Senior.

“I am proud of our league’s accomplishments,” said Ocon. “They have earned their accolades, but most of all I am excited for the 700 South Pasadena kids who came out and played baseball, softball and Challenger this year. They played and gave the sport a try.”

And when they did, sideline help, anchored by the SPLL Board, was there to lend a hand and make the program flourish. They have been there preparing the fields, ordering uniforms, making schedules, stocking snack bars, creating social media posts and more.

“I can go on and on about the countless hours year round our volunteers all put into making SPLL the great program it is today,” said Ocon, offering his deep appreciation and thanks. “I am so proud to be a part of such a great group of people!”
