Emmy-winning storyteller Ina Buckner-Barnette, known as the “Sunshine Storyteller,” will take center stage at the South Pasadena Public Library on Tuesday, July 16 at 6:00 p.m. as part of its Wonderful Wednesday summer series. The free performance will take place on the Oxley Street side of Library Park, inviting families to enjoy an evening of stories, songs, and fun.With a vibrant career spanning over 20 years, Buckner-Barnette has shared her joyful approach to storytelling across Southern California and beyond. Her performances combine international tales, movement, and music, promising a “magical carpet ride of story fun” that captivates audiences of all ages.

More Wonderful Wednesdays and Summer Programming Ahead

The next Wonderful Wednesday event is scheduled for July 23 at 6:00 p.m., continuing a lineup of family-friendly entertainment throughout the summer.In addition to these weekly events, the Library offers a wide range of programming for children, teens, and adults through August 2.

Weekly Storytimes

  • Preschool Storytime: Tuesdays, 10:30–11:00 a.m. (ages 3–5)
  • Toddler Storytime: Thursdays, 10:30–10:50 a.m. & 11:00–11:20 a.m. (ages 1–3)
  • Family Storytime: Saturdays, 10:30–11:00 a.m. (all ages)

These sessions promote early literacy, cognitive development, and social skills, offering an enriching experience through storytelling, songs, and interactive activities.

Programs for Adults

The Library also hosts inclusive programs tailored for adults:

  • All Abilities Club (AAC): August 8 at 10:00 a.m. in the Library Community Room, 1115 El Centro Street. Open to adults with disabilities. No registration required.
  • Walk ‘N Talk Book Club: August 13 at 9:00 a.m. on Oxley Street. Pre-registration required at southpasadenaca.gov/register.

Summer Reading Program Continues

The Summer Reading Program is in full swing through August 2, encouraging readers of all ages to log their reading and claim fun prizes. Backed by research, the initiative helps combat the “summer slide” and enhances children’s literacy development by promoting a habit of 20 minutes of daily reading.
