Senior Center Happenings August 10 to 17, 2018

The South Pasadena Senior Center, located at 1102 Oxley Street in South Pasadena, invites senior citizens to take advantage of programs and services offered to enhance their quality of life.

The following will be offered:

Friday, August 10, 10:30 a.m. – Friday, August 10, 10:30 am Nutrition for Boosting the Brain –Speaker will talk about the foods to eat to assist with focusing and memory.  Presented by Transitions Hospice. Sign up preferred.

Glucose & Blood Pressure Clinic  & Chair Yoga cancelled for the month of August.

Monday, August 13, 1:15 p.m. – Foreign Film Monday will feature the film “Solas” a Spanish and drama film.  Open to senior citizens.

Tuesday, August 14, 8:30 a.m. – Meditation – Learn to calm the mind and focus on the positivity of the task at hand.  Learn to develop the tool to expand one’s consciousness.  Led by certified instructor Candace Podvoll.  Cost per month $16 or $5 walk in fee.

Tuesday August 14, 4 p.m. – 5 p.m. – Ballroom Dance – For the month of August, the them is Salsa dancing. Is a fast and spicy dance characterized by strong Cuban motion and expression of rhythm through the body. Class fee $25 per month or $7 for walk-ins.

Wednesday, August 15, 10 a.m. – Book Discussion Group meets the third Wednesday of each month, with book selections made months in advance.  Contact the Center to obtain the list of books, group is open to members of the Center.

Friday, August 17, 10:30 a.m. – Mobile Metro Customer Care & Information on TAP Reduced Fare – representatives from Metro will be on hand to process applications for TAP cards, take photos, and load cards.  In addition a representative will speak on two of Metros programs, first Reduced Fare for TAP cards when seniors can load stored value on their card, this is a small cash purse of money $5, $10, etc.  This is best for people who don’t ride every day.  This money doesn’t expire like a monthly pass does.   The second program is  “On the Move Riders” program where seniors ride together and visit points of interest along the Metro line.  The public is invited to attend.

Lunch menu for the week:  Monday-Roast Turkey Swiss Cheese Sandwich, Tuesday- Cuban shredded Pork, Wednesday-Chicken Cordon Blue, Thursday-Chicken Alfredo with pasta & peas, Friday-Pork Chop w/ Apple Prune Gravy.  Lunches are provided for senior’s citizens for $2.25 a meal. Reservations are necessary.
