The South Pasadena Senior Center, located at 1102 Oxley Street in South Pasadena invites senior citizens to take advantage of programs and services offered to enhance their quality of life. The following will be offered:

Friday, February 1, 10:00am, Blood Pressure Screening – Transitions Hospice is the host, walk-ins welcome.

Friday, February 1, 10:30am, Understanding Vision Loss and the Emotional Impact – Thanks to the Braille Institute representative will be available on two dates to cover topics that are vital for those dealing with vision loss. Signs and symptoms of low vision, are you at risk? What are the possible treatments? What are the most common eye diseases that lead to vision loss? What is our Low Vision Wellness Program? Get more information on Braille Institute’s Services. Sign-ups are encourage, walk-ins welcome.

Friday, February 1, 1:00pm, Computer Basics – Understand the basics; setting up email, internet browsing, applications etc. Class size limit to 7 students. Cost per person $25, instructed by George Holmes.

Friday, February 1, 1:00 pm, Friday Cinema featuring “The Old Man & the Gun” a 2018 film, Drama/Crime, lasting 1 hours and 34 minutes. All seniors are welcome.

Monday, February 4, 10:00am, Diet Trends – Understand the various diets trending today. Keto, Raw, Alkaline and Mediterranean diets. Learn which works best for your life and your body. Presented by Bill Shuttic, Natural Health Practitioner.

Monday, February 4, 1:30pm, Rocks from Space – What threat does the impact of Asteroids pose for Society? From movies like Armageddon and Deep Impact to the hysteria over the asteroid impact that supposedly killed dinosaurs, people worried about an extraterrestrial object hitting the planter. What are the real risks of such an impact? Presented by Donald Prothero.

Wednesday, February 6, 10:30am, Valentines Craft: Ribbon Wreath – Bring the following items, wire hanger, three different colors of ribbon ½-1 inch wide. We will help you create a wreath for yourself or your sweetheart. Free to members – join us and bring your creativity. Sign up needed.

Friday, February 8, 10:30am, Vision Loss – Learn tips and tricks to help you carry on with daily life. Topics included will cover recognition techniques for money, shopping and dining, mobility techniques and transportation, and many more. Advanced sign up is needed.

Friday, February 8, 11:45am, Chinese New year Celebration – Come join us as we celebrate the New Year together. The luncheon and celebration will take place at the War Memorial Building, sponsored by South Pasadena Chinese American Club. The reservation list is filled, but are welcome to put your name down for waitlist.

Friday, February 8, Friday Cinema was been cancelled due to the Chinese New Year Celebration.

Lunch is served Monday through Friday by reservation.  Menu for the week is as follows:  Friday 1 – Stuffed Bell Pepper w/ ground beef, Monday 4 – Hamburgers with mushroom & onions, Tuesday 5 – Italian Sausage w/ Peppers, Wednesday 6 – Pork Chop with stuffing, Thursday 7 – Asian Orange Chicken, Friday 8 – Special Menu.  Cost per person $2.25 for onsite and reservations are necessary.  Home delivered meals are offered to those that are frail or recovering from illness, cost per meal $2.50, contact the office for any application.
