A dazzling array of activity can be found on board South Pasadena’s newest float design,
unveiled by local builders and decorators in anticipation to the 2023 Rose Parade next January.

Brant Dunlap, the president of the South Pasadena Tournament of Roses Committee, is among those who believes the entry – “The Spark of Imagination” – could be another award winner.

South Pasadena is used to winning these days. The city won the coveted Founder’s Award for its “Sky’s the Limit” float last January. The 2021 parade was canceled on account of COVID-19, but a year earlier the Mayor Award was earned for its “The Power of Hope” floral masterpiece.

Professors in lab coats, scientific books, colorful twirlers, cranks and more are all part of the latest float that inspires learning.

Richard Carlow, a longtime creative force behind South Pasadena’s float success over the years, teamed with Mathew L. McCoy in designing the city’s innovative float design.

“It looks great,” said Dunlap. “I couldn’t be more proud. Community submissions are what helps make the city’s float special.”
