Using Measure SP funds from a $98 million bond measure approved by South Pasadena voters, local schools continue to receive major upgrades.

The latest example is an overhaul of athletic facilities fields at South Pasadena Middle School. With two new fields – one artificial and one natural grass – along with revamped basketball and tennis courts, the project is now complete.

As a way to showcase the improvements, South Pasadena Unified School District personnel and Board of Education members gathered in front of a soccer goal to cut the red ribbon, signaling the project’s official opening.

For SPUSD Superintendent Geoff Yantz, it significantly changes the landscape of the athletic facilities at the middle school for the better. “For the school itself, for the athletic program, for after-school sports, and for the community to be able to utilize it, including AYSO, it’s going to be great,” he said. “We’re excited.”
