Prominent Scientist Dr. Tom Prince Guest Speaker at Oneonta Club

Black Holes : No Longer Theoretical will be the topic at the October 8, 2018 meeting

Dr. Tom Prince, Ira .S. Bowen Professor of Physics at Caltech, Director of the W.M.Keck Institute for Space Studies and JPL Senior Research Scientist will be the guest speaker at the October 8, 2018 meeting of the Oneonta Club.  Dr. Prince’s topic is Black Holes: No longer theoretical.

Prince, is a native of Cleveland, Ohio. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Villanova University and master’s and doctorate degrees in physics from the University of Chicago

The W.M. Keck Institute was founded in to 2008 to bring together the best talent from JPL, Caltech, and the wider community to create the innovative new approaches and techniques that will influence the course of space exploration for decades to come.

Over the last 50 years, Caltech and JPL have been working together in ways that have helped shape the course of space exploration, with major accomplishments in the areas of planetary exploration, space astronomy, Earth remote sensing, and aerospace engineering,”Even though the topic is space science, the atmosphere is very much down to Earth,” says Prince.

The Oneonta Club has been the meeting place for Gentleman of High Standards since 1923 serving the San Gabriel Valley and Verdugo communities.  The club is non-denominational.  Monthly meetings are held in Gray Hall on the campus of the Oneonta Church, 1515 Garfield Avenue (corner/Oak).   A wine happy hour begins at 6 pm, followed by dinner and  program for the evening.  Members of the public are always welcome to attend, Tickets are $40 and must be reserved through Eventbrite.com.
