Drew M. Hodis, the founder of HLM, started his journey in education at South Pasadena High School. Since then, he has built a strong reputation for himself and his organization, known for combining traditional teaching methods with a deeper understanding of the human psyche. With his ongoing PhD in Clinical Psychology at Adelphi University, he aims to bring in a comprehensive perspective to enhance the learning experience.
But Hodis Learning & Music is more than just tutoring. At its heart, HLM is about guiding student growth and self-esteem; at a pace that is best for each student. Hodis explains, “Tutoring for me isn’t just about helping a student finish their homework. I see a lot of kids struggling with stress and self-esteem, I want to give them confidence and encouragement.”
Beyond its commitment to student growth, HLM also believes in giving back to the community. A significant 20% of the organization’s net profits are donated to SPEF and PEF. These contributions go towards enrichment programs like summer school, youth camps, after-school classes, the South Pasadena 5th grade musical, elementary music programs, field trips, robotics programs, and teacher grants.
