Obituary | Julia Ann Shaw

Julia Ann Shaw, age 96, passed away at home on Sunday, August 28, 2022, in Pasadena, California.

She was born on November 19, 1925, in Los Angeles, California to the union of the late Antonion and Josephina Abbate. She was the youngest of thirteen children, all of whom preceded her in death.

Julia married the late John Shaw in 1943. Their union yielded three children, (the late) Ted, Julie and John.

Julia was a business woman for over seventy years in the garment industry.  She was also active in multiple volunteer groups such as Holy Family’s 50+ Club, Carmelite Sisters, South Pasadena Tournament of Roses and Holy Family Giving Bank. She will be greatly remembered for “holding court” at most venues. She was an outgoing woman with lots of joy and love to share.

As the matriarch of the family, Julia enjoyed vacations, holidays, pool and game days with multi-generations of family members. Her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren will always remember her bowl full of Kisses, Butterfingers, Fig Newtons and endless supply of donuts.

She is survived by two living children, Julie Smith and John Shaw, eleven grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and ten great-great grandchildren as well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

There will be a Viewing from 4:00pm to 6pm on Friday, September 30, 2022, at Cabot & Sons Funeral Home (27 Chestnut Street, Pasadena, CA 91103)

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at 10:00am at Holy Family Church (1527 Fremont Avenue, South Pasadena, CA 91030). A reception will follow at Connolly Hall. There will be a private internment.
