Organizers are calling it “a magical evening of active fun under the stars,” as a large contingent of outdoor enthusiasts are expected to take to the streets for Mission-at-Twilight along designated roadways in South Pasadena, Alhambra, and San Gabriel, welcoming individuals to bike, walk, scoot and skate.

A one-of-a-kind evening in the region, the 5-mile open streets event, slated for Sunday, June 22 from 3 to 8 p.m., will celebrate the summer solstice and transform a sizable portion of the San Gabriel Valley into a pulsating, car-free playground.
Making it happen, Mission-at-Twilight is presented by Metro, hosted by San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments (SGVCOG) and produced by ActiveSGV, no stranger to staging family-friendly Ciclovia outings.
“Come celebrate the longest day of the year with us – bring your friends, your family, and your pets, and let’s enjoy the streets as they’re meant to be: open and full of life!” reads a message on the website pushing it.

Wes Reutimann, the deputy director with Active SGV, said the event will feature three activity hubs – South Pasadena, Alhambra and San Gabriel – with live music, play zones for kids of all ages, a diverse array of food and beverages, and interactive community booths.
A one-mile fun run/walk – Gabe’s Fastest Mile, a chipped-timed, flat course, one-mile race – will start from the South Pasadena Hub at 2:30 p.m. (www.run626.com). A $35 registration fee includes a finisher medal and t-shirt.

Metro A Line (South Pasadena Station) welcomes bikes, scooters, strollers and wheelchairs on board at no extra cost.
In his role for Active Streets: “Mission-at-Twilight,” Reutimann, joining dozens of support staff, will help coordinate the event’s opening ceremony at 2:45 p.m. in San Gabriel, monitor a section of the route, and deliver refreshments to volunteers via a cargo bike.
“The route is lined with a wide range of excellent cafes and restaurants, allowing participants to enjoy a delicious dinner, dessert, or refreshing bubble tea as part of their event experience,” he noted.
It promises to be an evening of movement, music, and community fun for the active-transport, car-free, culture with a fresh twilight twist.
