Memorial Day | Ceremony at War Memorial May 27

A program will he held at the War Memorial Building on Monday, May 27, in South Pasadena to honor those who have sacrificed their lives in the U.S. military. A drum circle, yoga and meditation will be added this year

Memorial Day will be observed on Monday, May 27, in South Pasadena with a blend of speeches, music something new this year.

The event to honor the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at 11 a.m., an hour longer than past Memorial Day programs held at the War Memorial Building in the city.

Concluding the program, following remarks by the mayor, the color guard presentation, the Pledge of Allegiance, recognition for those who served in he Armed Forces, a speech by guest speaker Phlunte’ Riddle and a reception, will be a drum circle, yoga and meditation led by Jaz Sawyer and Chaim Gilan.

According to her Linked in page, Riddle, a Pasadena resident, is a “Motivational speaker, management and leadership consultant specializing in organizational leadership development and community engagement. Inspires leaders and empowers individuals across generations to reach their full potential through a greater self-awareness in the face of generational diversity.”

South Pasadena Mayor Dr. Marina Khubesrian said community members are welcome to attend the formal ceremony then leave, but she encouraged the public stay and participate in the drum circle, yoga and meditation.

Known originally as Decoration Day, Memorial Day originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971.

  1. I cannot think of any greater salute to our veterans and the sacrifices they made for our nation than a talk by motivational speaker Phlunte’ Riddle, Psy.D., and a drum circle, some yoga and meditation led by Jaz and Chaim!
