The Masons of South Pasadena Masonic Lodge No. 290 Free & Accepted Masons are pleased to announce the first public open house to be held on Saturday, September 21, 2019, at 2 pm at 1126 Fair Oaks Avenue, South Pasadena California 91030.
There are plenty of conspiracy theories and speculations regarding the mysteries of Freemasonry, so in an effort to shine a light on what the organization does and increase awareness about the lodge, the South Pasadena Masonic Lodge No. 290 is opening its doors and hosting its first-ever open house.
We are inviting all non-members to visit the lodge, commune with the brothers of the lodge, engage in question and answer sessions, and take guided tours discussing the history and pursuits of the craft.
See what happens in a masonic lodge!
About South Pasadena Masonic Lodge No. 290
The Grand Lodge of California chartered south Pasadena Masonic Lodge in 1888, the same year the city was born. Our lodge has been serving the community and its surrounding towns for the past 131 years! The building we currently occupy, which we built in 1930, is our fourth home. Mayors, doctors, actors, scientists, mechanics, police chiefs, lawyers, school administrators, filmmakers, engineers and the like, have been raised in our lodge, all helping build its eclectic identity that we admire and cherish.
About the Masons of California
Freemasonry—the world’s first and largest fraternal organization—is based on the belief that a man who strives to improve himself can thereby improve his community and our society at large. The Masons of California have more than 60,000 members in over 340 lodges located throughout the state. The California Masonic Foundation is committed to making a profound difference for our communities and touches the lives of thousands of Californians each year.
About Membership in the Lodge
For men wishing to become a Freemason, the first step is to ask to join. Masons can encourage someone to join but never invite. All candidates are interviewed and will need to be found of good character before accepted into the Freemasons.
Once becoming a candidate for membership, the candidate works on completing three degrees — Apprentice, Fellowcraft, and Master Mason.
There is no political affiliation linked to the Freemasons, and in fact, discussions of politics and religion are banned within the Masonic Lodge. Members don’t have to be of any particular religious sect but must declare a belief in a supreme being. Admission to our lodges is open to men of good character and faith, regardless of their race, color, religious beliefs, political views, sexual orientation, physical ability, citizenship, or national origin.
